I explored Blue Mars a bit these last few days, and now I wanted to re-visit Metaplace. I’ve my own space there but lack of time prevented me putting it to more use. My vague impression was that Metaplace.com had loyal and very active followers, but was not gaining enough traction. This is now confirmed, the company will close down metaplace.com but will explore other ventures as a company.
Furthermore there is non-confirmed news brought by usually well-informed industry sources (Erica Driver) about lay-offs at Forterra Systems.
Since the launch&demise of Lively I wonder whether the variations on the Second Life theme of user generated, open-ended virtual worlds actually incite more people to explore virtual worlds, or rather disperse the efforts of those already active in that space.
We Are the Network will discuss these topics today, at 12PM noon SL (US Pacific Time). More information on JoelFoner.com.
