MixedRealities has been quiet for a while. I recently completed the Research Master of Philosophy at KU Leuven, and I am now preparing a doctoral project on artificial intelligence and agency.
This blog has followed virtual worlds, online learning, and digital life for many years. I want to pick up those threads with more attention to AI and the philosophical questions surrounding it.
What does a particular AI experiment actually demonstrate? What do researchers mean when they describe a system as autonomous, deceptive, or intelligent? And how can people outside the field make sense of disagreements about AI safety? And, of course, how do virtual environments and generative AI relate or collide?
I’ll explore such questions through short essays, reading notes and, occasionally, conversations. Sometimes that will mean explaining a published paper; sometimes, examining a claim in the news or returning to an older discussion.
My earlier post on simulated agency from 2024 offers one connection with these interests. It remains in the archive with its original date.
For now, I’m starting with occasional short posts. Welcome back.
